MADE. Locally

About the event

In this talk, participants will explore how contemporary designers, architects, engineers, and makers draw from local contexts, materials, histories, and communities, to shape design practices rooted in place. As working locally becomes both a method and a stance, this conversation will explore how designers engage in dialogue with their environment. Whether by reviving endangered techniques, collaborating with local artisans, or reimagining the use of native materials, the panelists will consider how place-based practices can challenge extractive production models, foster sustainable and community-centered design, and navigate the complexities of working within and beyond local systems.

Language: English

What will you learn?
Participants will gain insight into how design and artistic practices can be rooted in place, community, and environment. The session will explore approaches to working with local materials and knowledge systems, and the value of collaboration in preserving craft traditions.

Who is it for?
This is for designers, artists, cultural practitioners, researchers, and anyone interested in sustainability, craft, and community-based approaches to making and thinking.
