Open Book: Plants of the Qur'an

About the event

In this session, join botanist Shahina Ghazanfar for a talk on her groundbreaking book "Plants of the Qur'an", which explores the cultural and botanical significance of plants mentioned in the Quran, from pomegranates to ginger. Highlighting thirty key plants, Ghazanfar delves into their history, etymology, and uses, while also discussing their depiction through beautiful botanical illustrations by Sue Wickison.

The talk will also address pressing environmental issues, including the impact of climate change on plant habitats, the loss of biodiversity, and the importance of conservation efforts. "Plants of the Qur'an" offers a compelling blend of science, art, and cultural history, advocating for the preservation of both plants and the knowledge they hold.
