In this three-day masterclass, participants will learn the traditional art of Islamic tile-making, inspired by the historic ornamentation of Jeddah, Mecca, and Medina. Guided by expert artisans, they will carve gypsum molds, press clay, and refine intricate designs using sustainable materials and specialized kilns.
• Day 1: Introduction to ornamentation and Arabic calligraphy.
• Day 2: Clay rolling and shaping the tiles.
• Day 3: Drawing and applying calligraphy to ceramic.
What will you learn?
Participants will create a six-tile composition framed in wood, with the option to incorporate calligraphy in collaboration with calligraphers from the Holy Mosque of Mecca.
