About the event
In this book-talk, co-authors Tejaswini Niranjana, Shalini Krishan, and Anumitra Ghosh Dastidar, bring India and China into conversation through food, tracing shared ingredients, philosophies, and culinary histories across borders. Drawing from Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, the book explores how food acts as both medicine and meaning, shaped by cultural exchange, colonial legacies, and evolving taste.
Through recipes and reflections, the authors reimagine taste as a transnational language. From historic Chinatowns in Calcutta to contemporary kitchens across Asia, this book invites us to rethink what connects us through the everyday act of eating.
Language: English.
What will you learn?
Participants will learn about the culinary histories, ingredients and medicinal practices of China and India.
Who is it for?
This book discussion is for food enthusiasts, historians, and anyone interested in the cultural history of spices and culinary traditions.
