About the event
In this online workshop, participants will explore Fatteh as a symbol of resilience and sustainability, as well as its place in contemporary food culture, with artist and culinary researcher Mirna Bamieh. Exploring bread-recycling recipes rooted in time-honored traditions that emphasize thriftiness, Bamieh highlights how communities under pressure adapt and conserve resources.
The event begins with a discussion on Fatteh’s metaphorical significance, followed by a live virtual cooking demonstration of Fatteh Ghazawieh, made with stale bread. Participants will cook along from their own kitchens, using a recipe shared by Mirna ahead of the workshop.
A ten-minute short film, "Fattoush", by Sophia Stamatopoulou-Robbins, will also be shown, deepening the conversation on stale bread in Palestine.
