About the event
This practical workshop will explore two traditional Makkawi breakfast staples: Areeka, a date-based dish, and spiced quince jam. Kayyal’s grandmother, born and raised in Makkah, would prepare these recipes monthly and deliver them to various family members, ensuring an endless supply of both. In the workshop, the chef will demonstrate how to make both dishes, and participants will then have the chance to create them on their own and take home what they've made.
Requirements: Participants are required to bring a family breakfast recipe to share and story-tell around.
Language: English and Arabic.
What will you learn?
Participants will learn how to cook Areeka and quince jam. They will gain confidence in fundamental kitchen skills while engaging in storytelling and cultural connection through food.
Who is it for?
This workshop is for food enthusiasts, home cooks, and anyone interested in traditional Makkawi cuisine.
