About the event
In this lecture-performance, a live goat becomes both a witness and a symbol, exploring the shifting relationship between humans and non-humans in an era of rapid change. Starting with the story of a 19th-century Hajj pilgrim traveling home with a goat, the talk reflects on how meat, migration, and modernity have reshaped our connection to sustenance and survival.
Blending live performance, archival footage, and storytelling, the lecture is followed by a roundtable where experts engage in a playful yet critical dialogue on pastoralism, livestock movement, and Islamic dietary traditions. Through this multispecies lens, the program invites us to rethink the ties between history, food, and place.
Language: Arabic.
What will you learn?
Participants will explore how food, migration, and modernity have reshaped our relationship with non-human life. Through history, performance, and discussion, you’ll gain new perspectives on meat, movement, and multispecies coexistence.
Who is it for?
This is for anyone curious about the intersections of history, food, and culture including artists, researchers, and writers.
