The Tree of Life

The artists’ activation of their installation is an open discussion around climate change, the rights of nature, and the potential of renewal. The conversation will be led by the guest speaker Princess Mashael Saud AlShalan, founder of AEON Collective and Tree Library in Riyadh. Looking at the different expressions of the ancient “tree of life” motif and other biomorphic symbols featured on the carpets and kilims of the artists’ Biennale work—which largely originate from the Balkans and Central Asia—is the starting point for a contemporary reflection on the enduring relationship between people and plants.
