The Geometry of Mangour

About the event

This workshop offers insight into the craft and design behind the Roshan windows displayed at the AlMadar Galleries at the Biennale. The Roshan features geometric patterns created using the Mangour technique. This technique involves carving wooden strips to form interlocking shapes that create intricate geometric designs. Participants will explore the geometric principles behind Mangour and apply traditional techniques to design and complete their own composition.

Language: English.

What will you learn?
Participants will learn the geometric symmetries required to design a Mangour screen, recognize and draw the individual 'letters' of Mangour screens along with their names, and create their own Mangour composition.

Who is it for?
This workshop is for artists, designers, and anyone interested in Islamic geometric patterns. It is open to all skill levels.
