Poetry Weekend featuring Buckets and Waterskins by Rasha Al-Duwaisan

Join us for Rasha AlDulwaisan's commission juxtaposing historic and contemporary responses to rain in the Arabian Peninsula, combining spoken word, poetry, and sound.

The role of rain in our everyday lives has evolved dramatically over the last century. What was once desperately longed for as a source of life is now often considered a refreshing turn of weather or even a nuisance. Through the lens of historic adaptations to rainfall, Alduwaisan will narrate vignettes of modern domestic and social life. Through layered imagery centered on material objects, the landscape, and architecture, she will question how our interactions with nature have changed and how that has affected our sense of self and the world around us.

Al Dulwaisan will share her words in an intimate, atmospheric space, where listeners are encouraged to think about their place in history.

Alongside AlDulwaisan’s poetic intervention, an open call invites other contributions from writers, artists, and poets who wish to propose a poem, song, or short piece of writing to present in response to the themes of After Rain.
