Ingredient as Material

Ehsan Ul Haq, an artist whose work is currently exhibited at the Biennale in collaboration with the artist Iqra Tanveer, presents this workshop in which participants will explore the creative potential of edible materials, transforming them into tools for sensory image-making. Participants will use natural pigments from spices, herbs, fruits, and teas—like turmeric, beetroot, coffee, and basil—to create impressions.

By engaging sight, smell, touch, and taste, this process encourages personal and cultural connections, turning familiar ingredients into expressive landscapes. Blending discussion and hands-on experimentation, the workshop invites participants to reimagine the culinary as a space for artistic exploration.

What will you learn?
Participants will create art on an A3 color sheet using natural ingredients for image-making and learn techniques like imprinting, smudging, and soaking.
