This masterclass invites designers to explore the word “Allah” as a starting point for visual and material experimentation. The program draws from Allah1.net, an evolving archive of jewelry, objects, and visual experiments centered on the word “Allah”, created by Mothanna Hussein across digital and physical media.

Over the course of five days, participants will move from initial research and visual exploration to developing material concepts, culminating in the presentation and documentation of their final designs.

Requirements:

Participants are required to bring their own laptops with an active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (including access to Illustrator and other graphic design softwares).

Language: English and Arabic

What will you learn?

Participants will learn to develop visual research into material concepts, using Arabic calligraphy (namely ornamentation) as a design language for jewelry, products, and sculptural objects.

This masterclass is for designers interested in expanding their visual and material practices, with a focus on reimagining Arabic calligraphy across digital and physical media.
