الطارق - A Research into Tribal Musical Traditions across the Arab World
DJ and producer JEME brings to life the installation of artist Tarek Atoui inside the After Rain exhibition space.
JEME is a DJ/Producer originating from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His music production and selections are unique, intricate percussion patterns, hypnotic synths and the weaving of genres render a deep journey to the listener, aiming to provoke an array of emotions all at once. JEME’s passion for craftsmanship and shared knowledge has appointed him a special place in Saudi music industry.
Join us for the first of a series of activations of the long-term research and performance project الطارق focused on an Arabic musical sensibility known as tarab, which describes the emotional thrall and ecstatic state of the listener. JEME will use the instruments bought during the artist’s research in Saudi Arabia. Some are repurposed; others have been expertly made by local craftsmen. Atoui has adapted the instruments to continuously play compositions combining contemporary electronic sounds and field recordings from Morocco and Saudi Arabia to create a unique new musical experience.
