About the event
This panel, inspired by Anhar Salem’s video installation Media Fountain, explores how globalization, capitalism, and digital media shape Islamic identity today. The discussion features philosopher Hans-Georg Moeller, author of 'You and Your Profile: Identity After Authenticity', who examines how digital profiles challenge notions of authenticity. Ruba Al-Sweel, a writer, curator, and artist, explores online movements and the intersection of pop culture and visual anthropology in the Gulf. Anhar Salem will share insights from her work on social media, privacy, and the body. The panel will discuss how digital imagery impacts religious symbols and identity, addressing issues of appropriation, authenticity, and representation in the digital age.
