Exploring Palm Symbolism with Arabic Letterforms and Printmaking

About the event

Join Jana and Abdulaziz Malaikah for a stamping workshop blending Arabic typography, palm tree symbolism, and modern design. Participants will explore the cultural significance of the date palm while experimenting with hand-printing. The workshop will focus on modular typeface, "Sinwaan" and its potential as patterns, using stamp printing. This hands-on experience merges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, reflecting themes of growth, unity, and transformation.

Language: English and Arabic

What will you learn?
Participants will learn stamping and hand-printing techniques, with a focus on using modular Arabic type as a tool for creating patterns and designs.  They will also gain skills in layout, color theory, and typographic hierarchy. By the end, participants will have a series of original prints and assembled a self-made zine that captures their process, explorations, and final outcomes.

Who is it for?
This workshop is for anyone who is interested in Arabic typography, printmaking, and design, whether beginners or enthusiasts, who are looking to explore new creative techniques and cultural symbolism.
