What you will gain: If you're wondering what a zine is, it's a miniature magazine. You'll learn paper folding, cutting, and assembling techniques, taking inspiration from sample zines which our team will provide. You'll draw on the theme of "After Rain" to create your own mini-narrative, using local archives and your own interpretations to craft a unique storyline. Al Reeshah studio:

Founded in August 2021 in Abu Dhabi's Al Falah suburb, Al Reeshah studio is led by Emirati artist Yoshi (Aisha Al Ali) and co-founders Sedra Al Mansoori, Shaikha AI Shamsi, Mohammed Al Jenibi, and Al Maha Jarallah. This artist-run studio welcomes interdisciplinary artists, including recent residents Mariam Al Mehiri, Shama AI Suwaidi, Mayed Al Nuaimi, and Sarah Ahmed, offering a collaborative space for painting, installation, illustration, photography, and ceramics. Al Reeshah aims to foster a creative community for artists to connect, critique, and co-create.

Sara Ahmed:

Based in Abu Dhabi, Sara Ahmed, a Networking & Security graduate turned creative, founded Jaffat El Aqlam and co-founded 7ijra Waraqa Miqas. Known for urging others to create zines for her collection, she explores art through film photography, glitch art, and zine publishing. Ahmed's works, focusing on storytelling and "children lit for grown-ups," have been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. She also leads workshops across the UAE, creating impromptu sessions to share her passion for art.

Medyyah Altamimi:

Emirati author and artist Medyyah Altamimi combines DIY ethos with film, collage, and poetry, exploring a range of mediums. A Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Art History and Archeology graduate, her interests lie in abstractly documenting Gulf families, challenging perceptions of 'oriental' women in art, and exploring the concept of violent beauty.

Yoshi:

Yoshi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Abu Dhabi.She has completed her BFA in Visual Arts at Zayed University She also attended several international art programs at Joshibi University of Art and Design (Tokyo), Tokyo Metropolitan University, and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. She is the founder of Al Reeshah an independent artists-run studio based in Abu Dhabi suburbs. Yoshi has a fascination for Japanese culture and has explored the idea of ‘J-Emirati’ in her graduation showcase at Manarat Al Saadiyat (2021). She has exhibited internationally in various group exhibitions: The Bvlgari Contemporary Art Award Exhibition (2022), East-East Vol.4: The Curio Shop, HB.Nezu and BLOCK HOUSE, Tokyo (2021), The Disappearing Art Show, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai (2021), ZU_CACE Showcase “Pending Approval”, Abu Dhabi Art (2020) and Emerge lll Converging, Venice (2019). She also has participated in the production of a comic book commissioned by the Sharjah Art Foundation entitled “Corniche ” (2020-2021).
