Les Orants Habités Par Leur Espace and Ligne series
Yazid Oulab was born in 1958 in Sedrata, Algeria. After graduating with a fine arts degree in Algiers in 1985 he moved to France, obtaining a diploma in plastic arts from the Ecole de Marseille-Luminy in 1992, and he still lives and works in Marseille. He is interested in giving contemporary form to spiritual traditions. The process of making his drawings, installations, sculptures, and videos often involves repetitive gestures that relate to ritual and meditation, while the everyday materials he uses refer to the building sites on which he worked in his early years in France.
His most recent solo exhibitions have been at Selma Feriani Gallery, Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia (2022); Centre d’Art Contemporain, Saint-Restitut, France (2021); Espace Safran, Amiens, France (2019); and Galerie Eric Dupont, Paris (2018).
